Airlines, financial institutions and other companies around the world reported Thursday that they are experiencing technical difficulties due to a short series of internet outages.

The Associated Press reported that many outages were found in Australia as individuals attempted to conduct business transactions and book flights.

Among the companies affected were US-based United Airlines and Southwest Airlines, which had already faced days of technical problems that led to flight delays and cancellations.

Southwest said in a statement that it experienced a “short-term outage” that affected its website and “internet-based tools” but worked quickly to resolve the issue and restart the site.

“The outage did not affect our operation,” Southwest spokesman Dan Landson said. “We appreciate the patience of our customers as our teams worked to restore these systems quickly.”

Meanwhile, United Airlines tweeted in response to questions from a user Thursday that it was “working immediately” to address technical issues, adding that it would provide an update “as soon as this issue is resolved.”
