Inspired by the COVID-19 restrictions, Hockey East went into the form of a single game for each round of last season’s men’s and women’s tournaments.
In previous years, the preliminary and semi-final rounds sometimes included the top three in the top three, although sometimes there was one game in the opening round.
The league announced it was following last season’s playoffs with one elimination.
Each team will be entered into a tournament for men and women. Hockey East had limited the tournament field to eight teams in the seasons 2018-19 and 2019-20.
The women’s tournament had always been in the form of eight teams, but the men’s side involved all the teams.
This new format of the Hockey East tournament will allow all of our student athletes to compete for the championship, which is without a doubt the most exciting part of the season, Hockey East Commissioner Steve Metcalf said. Hockey East is the most competitive conference on college hockey, from top to bottom, and this new format underscores the importance of every game during the season for both players and fans.
Hockey East Deputy Commissioner Brian Smith said that because there are 11 men’s teams, they have to play on an unbalanced schedule, so it’s not fair to exclude teams from the season.
Some teams play a more difficult schedule depending on which teams meet three times and which twice.
Smith said a single qualifier makes more financial sense because first-round and semi-final games don’t traditionally attract large crowds because they are often held during Spring Break.
This has been doing for two years. We want to try it for a while. We want to get a good sample size, Smith said.
On the men’s side, the top five seeds earn the first round past and in the initial rounds there is a sixth seed that hosts number 11, a No. 7 entertain No. 10 and an eighth seed home against number 9. These games are played played on March 9, 2022.
Hockey East robs again after the first round, so the top three seeds will host the first round winners, and the top seed will entertain the lowest seed survivors in one semi-final and so on. The fourth seed hosts five seeds. The semi-finals are on March 12, 2022.
The Hockey East Mens final and championship games will return to Boston Garden on March 18 and 19 after a one-year hiatus.
All 10 teams are in the Hockey East women’s tournament.
Seeds 7 and 8 will provide seeds 10 and 9, respectively, in the initial round on February 23, 2022, while the top six seeds will be attracted to the semi-finals. After re-sowing, the top two seeds hosted the winners of the opening round, while the No. 3 seed hosted the sixth seed and the No. 4 host No. 5.
The semi-finals will be held on March 4, 2022, and the championship is set for March 5, 2022, and the championship venue will be announced later.
Winners of both tournaments will receive an automatic conference offer for the NCAA tournament.
UMaine men’s coach Ben Barr said his most interesting memories as a player at Rensselaer University of Applied Sciences and as an assistant or assistant coach in the Five Division I program came in the three-game series.

It creates a competition in a league game to earn the top six teams and play rested in the quarterfinals. We have had parity in the semifinals in recent years and it should continue with very competitive play-in games.
