ELLISVILLE, Miss (WDAM) – Jones College will host the teams tennis court on their Ellisville campus this week Monday through Wednesday.

Sixty-four students in seventh to 12th grade will attend an event that will not only teach them techniques to win on the tennis court, but also skills that will help them in life.

Northeast of Northwest Rankin, Brookhaven, Saltillo and Eupora are represented at Teams Tennis Camp, many of whom started playing tennis just for fun but soon found that they enjoyed other aspects of the game.

Northwest Rankin senior Kaytlin Moudy said he wasn’t very interested in tennis as he grew up, but now gets a lot of joy from playing it.

There’s a little camp where my mom had signed me to, it was actually my birthday, and I was like I just wanted to swim. That’s why I wanted to go, and then I ended up falling in love with it because it was so much fun, Kaytlin said.

Even if it just beats with friends to have fun, it doesn’t always have to be competitive. Even just hitting with someone who has never taken a racket, you always want to spend time and effort and work and give your best.

Jones College tennis coach Brooks Buffington said no other university in the state offers this type or camp for tennis players, and usually teams are not allowed to spend the night in the places where they play.

These students get to stay on the campus in dormitories, giving them a little idea of what college life can be like.

This is the second year that Jones College has held its Teams Tennis Camp, with the goal of expanding it further next year.
