Disney + and Lucasfilm Tease Anime Series – Deadline

[ad_1]

On Saturday, the lead creatives behind Star Wars: Visions appeared at Anime Expo Lite to stir up the excitement of the upcoming animated series, which will debut at Disney+ on September 22, to announce the names of the Japanese studios they helped bring to life.

Lucasfilms’ latest film has been described as an anthology series consisting of short films, centered around the Star Wars universe. Each carries a uniquely Japanese feel, which in many ways matches the tone and spirit of Star Wars storytelling, going back to the fourth episode of 1977 – A New Hope. From the beginning, the stories told in the Star Wars galaxy have counted Japanese myths and the films of Akira Kurosawa among their many influences, and these new visions will explore this cultural heritage through the unique animation style and perspective of each anime studio.

The seven animation studios bringing their distinctive visuals and storytelling styles to Visions include Kamikaze Doga, Gino Studio (dual drive), Studio Colorado (dual drive), Trigger, Kinema Citrus, Science Saru, and Production IG.

Trigger and Science Saru oversee two episodes each, while the others only top two episodes. Episode titles include “The Duel” (Kamikaze Douga), “Lop and Ochō” (Geno Studios), “Tattoine Rhapsody” (Studio Colorido), “The Twins”, “The Elder” (Trigger), and “The Village Bride” ( Kinema Citrus), “Akakiri”, “T0-B1” (Science Saru), and “The Ninth Jedi” (IG production).

Star Wars: Visions is produced by Lucasfilm’s Jacqui Lopez, James Waugh and Josh Rimes. It was co-produced by Justin Leach of Qubic Pictures, with Kanako Shirasaki as producer.

All episodes of the series will be available to stream on September 22nd exclusively on Disney+.
