SARASOTA, Fla. Former US President Donald Trump held a rally in Sarasota, Florida on Saturday maintaining his claims he won the 2020 election.
Trump also insisted on releasing the name of the police officer who shot and killed Ashli Babbitt, a 35-year-old Trump supporter, inside the Capitol during the Jan. 6 riots. released. Babbitt’s wife filed lawsuits seeking the officer’s name.
“Who shot Ashli Babbitt,” Trump pressed at a rally in July in Florida. The former president also questioned the continued detention of some of his supporters who faced charges of assaulting the Capitol as Congress approved President Joe Biden’s victory.
Trump hit on familiar themes at the rally on Saturday. This included Biden winning by counting illegal and invalid votes including ball-in ballots.
Trump led Florida and Ohio into the 2020 race but partially lost the battlefields of Georgia, Arizona and Rust Belt to Biden. The U.S. Supreme Court and other courts have denied Trumps lawsuits challenging Bidens ’battlefield wins.
Trump also maintained his earnest rhetoric criticizing the news media and warning monuments like the Jefferson Memorial in Washington could be renamed by Democrats.
The media in this country is bad, Trump said.
The former president also criticized New York prosecutors for criminal charges filed against the Trump Organization and CFO Allen Weisselberg over allegations of illegal payments and benefits that were not reported as taxable income.
Trump argued that the charges were politically motivated.
