The Highland Athleticsdepartment has been busy since early June, hiring new head coaches for several Hawks University sports programs.
Scott Bradford is fulfilling the opportunity for the Highland Boys tennis tournament, which was announced on social media on Wednesday. He replaces Shawn Cook, who led the Hawks ’9-6 team record and left the Division I tournament last spring.
“We played the hard part and tried to design tougher teams to improve us. The culture was awesome when the boys really got together around each other all season,” Highland Sports Director Brandon Larson told the republic. “What struck me in the interviews (Bradford) was that his cultural conversations fit exactly what we believe here in the Highland with enthusiasm, love, honesty, perseverance, in everyday life.”
Highland is Bradford’s first head coach position. His previous assignment was to be the coach of the Auxiliary Boys at the American Leadership Academy-Gilbert North. Bradford also brings 20 years of tennis experience, including a member of the Dixie State University team in Utah.
“I believe the Highland tennis team has the potential to be one of the best tennis programs in the state,” Bradford said in a text message. “To achieve this level, I focus on building a culture that attracts student-athletes with a desire to set goals, work hard, improve every day, and represent the school class with the field and beyond.”
Additional Highland head coaching was hired Cliff Gustafson wrestling and Tait Neilson girls volleyball team. They were revealed on Highland’s Twitter on June 21 and 4, replacing Jon Evans and Jordan Neal.
