California recall candidate Caitlyn Jenner faced increased criticism on Friday after traveling to Australia to shoot a reality show despite strict COVID-19 restrictions that still exist in Australia and California, as well as less than two months until the recall election in September.

Jenner defends travel to Australia

Despite criticism, Jenner defended her actions, underscoring her commitment by submitting her application in Los Angeles on Thursday, shortly before taking off. Jenner tweeted on Friday that she remained determined to run for governor, announcing a grand tour of state bus stops upon her return.

“I didn’t stop my campaign at all. I’m getting ready to embark on a multi-week bus tour through California, ”Jenner tweeted Friday. “I honor a professional commitment that I made even before deciding to run for governor. Among the first four prominent Republican candidates to announce their gubernatorial candidacy, Jenner came last after former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, 2018 gubernatorial candidate John Cox and former member of Congress Doug Ose. In a May poll at UC Berkeley, Jenner gathered just 6% of all voters in favor of her, down from 76% against. Among Republican voters, she was also the only candidate to receive significant opposition, with 62% of all GOP voters not for her.
