Jim Ross calls criticism of AEW’s signing policy a “weak argument”

Jim Ross disagrees that AEW’s signing policy is counterproductive.

The announcer told fans listening to his “Grilling JR” podcast which claims the company is signing too many former WWE stars is “a weak argument.” For Ross, it is far more important that Tony Khan’s group includes the right men and women.

If any of these names get posted in WWE, so be it.

JR specifically takes issue with certain online comments he has read that suggest that AEW is “WWE lite”. It’s a slap in the face of the local promotion list, he says, and it’s just plain wrong; Ross refused to hit WWE during the podcast. Instead, he remembered a “great” 26 years of employment under the aegis of Vince McMahon.

AEW has taken some stick to sign former WWE stars like Paul ‘Big Show’ Wight, Mark Henry, Andrade El Idolo, Christian Cage and Malakai Black over the past year or so. These names joined others like Matt Hardy, Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley as workers who had already made hay for McMahon.

Jim isn’t sure that mixing local AEW talent (MJF, Sammy Guevara, etc.) with these new stars is a bad thing for anyone.
