The courageous admission of Angel Postecoglou to Celtic as he accuses himself of the draw in the Champions League qualifiers

Australia coach Ange Postecoglou has sought to shoulder all the blame for Celtic’s recent 1-1 draw with FC Midtjylland in the Champions League qualifiers.

In the Hoops’ first competitive game of the season, they lost a lead and finished the game with 10 men as they played in front of 9,000 home fans.

After a promising start in friendlies, Celtic have struggled with injuries and squad numbers in recent weeks.

Postecoglou has refused to blame himself and admits that the club’s preparation under his leadership will never be so bad again.

“We will undoubtedly be better prepared in eight days. In fact, I don’t think we will ever be as badly prepared as tonight and it is up to me to get into such an important game,” Postecoglou told the journalists.

We still have eight days, I am confident that the preparation and the state of mind that we have will allow us to achieve a good performance.

“It’s on me. I’m the manager of the football club. I’m the one who takes responsibility for supporting the players and the staff. If things don’t happen, it’s up to me to make them happen.

To be honest I haven’t done a great job so far because with the disruption we’ve had we haven’t been able to bring the players in.

My role is to try to strengthen this team and to try to prepare this team for what lies ahead, and to their credit, the players did not look for excuses tonight.

They made a solid turn and I’m just disappointed that they weren’t rewarded for what I thought was an outstanding performance.

Despite the disappointing result, Celtic fans have already started to warm up to the former Socceroos boss, with many believing that the club’s current problems lie with the board, not their new manager.

The Hoops will face West Ham in a friendly this weekend before traveling to Denmark for the Champions League second qualifying round second leg against Midtjylland.
