SGX Helpful Global Directions and Other Things You Need to Know Before the Stock Market Opens

What you need to know before the market opens –

Wall Street: US stocks closed mixed on Wall Street on Monday after a day of tumultuous trading. The S&P 500 closed lower after being slightly higher for much of the day. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 97.31 points while the Nasdaq rose.

Shares initially applauded Sunday’s announcement by US senators of about $1 trillion in proposed infrastructure incentives. Those factors helped push the S&P 500 index to a near-record high Monday morning, but the indices eventually retreated.

Asian markets: Asian stocks were stable early Tuesday after US stocks fell lower and government bond yields fell on concerns that the economic recovery from the pandemic is losing momentum, Bloomberg reported. Shares fell in Japan and Australia and rose in South Korea.

Oil prices: Oil stabilized above $71 a barrel as investors weighed the risk to consumption from the spread of the delta coronavirus strain. West Texas Intermediate was 0.4% higher after dropping 3.6% Monday, its biggest loss in two weeks.

Prices fell on weak manufacturing data from China on Monday, while concerns about global growth also weighed on US equities even as Asian and European stocks rose.

SGX Nifty: SGX Nifty signals a flat open for the Indian stock markets today. Singapore Nifty (SGX Nifty) is the Indian Nifty traded on the Singapore Stock Exchange and is considered the first indication of the opening of the Indian markets.

Earnings Today: Adani Enterprise, Adani Ports, Bharti Airtel, Dabur, Bank of India are among the companies set to disclose earnings on Tuesday.
