With Labor Day approaching, many people are wondering if the market will be open during the upcoming holiday.

Is the stock market open on Labor Day?

Labor Day always falls on the first Monday in September and is known as one of the 11 federal holidays celebrated in the United States.

Although the stock market is open on Veterans Day and Indigenous Peoples Day, it does close on Labor Day.

Other holidays when the stock market is closed include:

What did the CDC say about travel on Labor Day?

As the delta strain of the Coronavirus continues to take in and kill people in the United States, Dr. Rochelle P. Walensky, the director of the CDC, released guidelines for the holiday weekend.

On September 1, 2021, The New York Times reported that those who have not been vaccinated should avoid all travel.

First and foremost, if you are not vaccinated, we recommend that you do not travel, she said. …During the pandemic, we have seen that the vast majority of transmission takes place among unvaccinated people in closed indoor environments.

Despite the CDC reporting that 52 percent of the U.S. population is fully vaccinated, there are still 48 percent of people who have only one or have not been vaccinated at all.

As the number of hospital admissions continues to rise, it is recommended to stay at home to limit the spread.

When will the stock market open again?

While the stock market may be closed on Monday, September 6, it is expected to reopen the following day.

The New York Stock Exchange opens at 9:30 a.m. and closes trading at 4:00 p.m. EST.

For those wishing to trade before the holidays, they are expected to do so before September 3.
