Petrol and diesel price today: Petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged across the country for the 17th consecutive day on Wednesday, September 22, 2021. Major automotive fuel prices were last revised on September 5, when petrol and diesel prices were slashed by 15 paise per liter each in the national capital.
The price of petrol in Delhi stands at Rs 101.19 per liter while that of diesel is at Rs 88.62. In Mumbai, petrol currently costs Rs 107.26 while diesel is sold for Rs 96.19, data available on Indian Oil Corporations website shows.
In India, fuel prices vary from state to state depending on local taxes (VAT) and freight charges. In addition, the national government levies excise duty on car fuels.
The OMCs review gasoline and diesel rates on a daily basis based on the average price of benchmark fuel in the international market over the preceding 15 days and exchange rates.
In the international market, oil prices rose more than $1 on Wednesday, extending gains overnight after industry data showed U.S. crude inventories fell more than expected last week in the wake of two hurricanes, highlighting imposed a tight supply as demand improves, Reuters news agency reported.
US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures were up $1.08 (1.5 percent) to $71.57 a barrel at 0643 GMT, contributing to a gain of 35 cents as of Tuesday. Brent crude futures rose $1.03 (1.4 percent) to $75.39 a barrel, after gaining 44 cents on Tuesday, the report said.
