Air China’s third-quarter loss widened on outbreaks, higher fuel prices

The net loss of Air China Ltd. rose in the third quarter, largely due to sporadic outbreaks of Covid-19, rising fuel prices and currency movements.

The Beijing-based airline’s loss fell to 3.54 billion yuan ($552.6 million) over the period, it said in a stock exchange statement late Friday. In the same quarter a year ago, the company posted a loss of CNY670.7 million.

Sales rose 5.2% to CNY 19.79 billion, it said.

In the first nine months of the year, the company’s net loss increased 2.1% to CNY 10.32 billion, while revenue increased nearly 19% to CNY 57.46 billion.
