Irish low-cost airline Ryanair has decided to delist from the London stock exchange to comply with European Union rules after Brexit. Citing rule changes, high fees and the low number of shares being bought and sold, the Dublin-based airline says it will be listed exclusively on the Euronext Dublin exchange, with the last trading on the FTSE on December 17, 2021.

Until then, shares of Europe’s largest budget airline will trade in both Dublin and London. Ryanair says that due to the low number of shares being sold on the London stock exchange, the cost of being listed there does not justify the cost.
Ryanair says move will benefit shareholders
When we talk about exiting the London Stock Exchange, the Independent newspaper quotes Ryanair as saying:
“As indicated in our interim results, and following the subsequent involvement of shareholders, Ryanair has decided to request the delisting of its London listing, as the trading volume of its shares on the London Stock Exchange will reduce the costs associated with such listing and does not justify admission to trading. , and to consolidate trading liquidity into a single regulated market for the benefit of all shareholders.”
The airline had already discussed delisting in London earlier this month, with Brexit being an important factor in the decision-making process.
A low number of shares were trading in London
As a result of a low number of shares trading in early November, the airlines said:
“The LSE migration is in line with a general trend for EU company shares trading post-Brexit and may be more acute for Ryanair due to the long-standing ban on non-EU citizens from buying Ryanair common shares to buy will be extended to British nationals after Brexit.”

After the summer, Ryanair started selling about a million shares bought by non-EU nationals (mainly British) because of company leaders and Brexit. The airline has had a ban on non-EU citizens from buying shares in the airline since 2002.
