The billionaire just bought the entire town of Mustang, Texas — a dot on the map off I-45, which has a population of 21 people, according to the latest census data.
“I don’t know what I’ll do with it,” Cuban told the newspaper. (However, should the Cuban be unlucky a la “Schitt’s Creek,” it’s nice to know that he’ll have his own hamlet and a crazy group of townspeople to take him in.)
Mustang is pretty much a 77-acre blank canvas for Cubans.
The town was founded in the early 1970s, when it was best known as a local watering hole in an otherwise arid Navarro County, according to the paper. Today there is little more than a trailer park and strip club, Wispers Cabaret, which is said to be in decline. On Friday, Google Maps showed that the club’s name had been changed to ‘Mark Cubaret’.
It’s not clear what Cuban paid for the city, but for someone with nearly $6 billion in wealth, it was almost certainly a steal. The city was reportedly put up for sale in 2017 for $4 million, but Turner said it was too expensive, even when they halved the sale price.
