The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has issued a circular regarding the launch of weekly option contracts on the Bank Nifty index. The exchange said the availability of weekly expiration option contracts on Nifty Bank weekly contracts will be reduced to 4 from 7 January 2022.
Members are requested to note that the availability of weekly expiration option contracts on the BANKNIFTY Index will be reduced from 7 to 4 consecutive weekly expiration contracts (excluding monthly expiration contracts) from January 21, 2022. was released on Wednesday.
Nifty Bank’s weekly options contracts expire on every Thursday of the week. If Thursday is a trading day, the contracts will expire on the previous trading day. The weekly contracts so far have 7 weekly expiration dates excluding the expiration week of the monthly contract. A new serial weekly option contract is entered upon expiry of the relevant weekly contract.
Meanwhile, all existing weekly due dates will remain available until their respective due dates/dues. NSE has further advised that no new weekly expirations (excluding monthly expirations) will be introduced for Nifty Bank between January 21, 2022 and March 3, 2022.
In addition, 4 consecutive weekly expirations (excluding monthly expirations) will be available for trading from March 04, 2022 onwards.
Nifty Bank’s monthly options contracts have a trading cycle of up to 3 months – the near month (one), the next month (two) and the far month (three). At the expiration of the near-month contract, new contracts are introduced at new strike prices for both call and put options, on the trading day following the expiration of the near-month contract. The new contracts will be introduced for a period of three months.
