Sensex and Nifty go downstairs; RIL drops almost 2%

Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty ended slightly lower on Thursday as losses in Reliance Industries, Bajaj Finance and Maruti, while investors remained cautious amid rising Omicron cases.

The 30-stock index finished 12.17 points or 0.02 percent lower at 57,794.32. Similarly, the broader Nifty fell 9.65 points, or 0.06 percent, to 17,203.95.

Reliance Industries was the biggest loser in the Sensex package, at nearly 2 percent, followed by Tata Steel, Maruti, Bajaj Finance, Sun Pharma and SBI.

On the other hand, NTPC, HCL Tech, IndusInd Bank, Titan, Wipro and Dr Reddy’s were among the winners.

Elsewhere in Asia, stocks in Shanghai and Hong Kong ended profits, while Seoul and Tokyo were in the red.

Stock markets in Europe traded during mid-session deals.

Meanwhile, the international oil benchmark Brent oil fell 0.68 percent to $78.69 a barrel.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital market as they sold shares worth Rs 975.23 crore on Wednesday, according to stock market data.
