Law Firm Osborne Clarke Hires CMS Brussels Lawyer to Head EU Law Practice

Osborne Clarke has appointed a new partner to lead the firms Brussels-based EU law practice.

Roderick Nieuwmeyer joins the firm as a partner from CMS, where he has spent over a decade as an attorney-at-law, according to his Linkedin. He will head the firms Brussels and Amsterdam EU law practice.

He takes on the role from Steven Verschuur, who was a partner at the firm for over three years and was appointed as a GCEU judge in July.

His experience lies in competition and EU regulatory law, advising on merger control proceedings and antitrust investigations before the European Commission and national competition authorities.

According to a statement by the firm, Nieuwmeyer will work closely with both Osborne Clarkes Belgian and Dutch offices.

David Haex, Osborne Clarkes managing partner in Belgium, said the hire comes as part of a strategy to offer the same full service the firm offers elsewhere and having a dedicated EU law team in the Brussels office has proven to be a great asset.

The firms Belgium office was founded in 2013 and now comprises eight partners and nearly 30 lawyers.

Brussels has seen lots of lateral movement as firms continue to invest in the region.

in March Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton hired an antitrust partner from Linklaters, its first lateral addition to its Brussels office in 15 years. A long-standing Brussels-based Allen & Overy partner exited for Crowell & Moring in Juneand DLA Piper hired the managing partner of Hausfeld & Cos Brussels and Paris offices to bolster its competition law practice in August.
