There are several laws that apply to employment in Michigan to which small business owners must adhere.

Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act prohibits discrimination in Michigan on the basis of “religion, race, color, national origin, age, sex, height, weight, sexual orientation, familial status, or marital status” in employment, housing, education, and access to public accommodations. Americans with Disabilities Act prohibits discrimination based on disability. Covered employers are required to provide reasonable accommodationsto employees with disabilities, and imposesaccessibility requirements on public accommodations.
