Stock Markets Today: Goldman Energy Crisis Brazil Bolsonaro NATO Sweden Turkey

[ad_1]

Good morning. Goldman prepares one of his biggest rounds of layoffs ever, a warm winter saves Europe and thousands of Bolsonaro supporters storm government buildings in Brazil’s capital. This is what people are talking about.

It’s going to be a nerve-racking few days for Goldman Sachs employees. The company plans has cut as many as 3,200 positions as of mid-week, with more than a third of the cuts set to come from major trading and banking divisions. Why such a large number? Partly because the workforce is up 34% since the end of 2018 and Goldman mostly putting aside its annual exercise to cut off underachievers during the pandemic. Broader industry trends, such as a slowdown in merger activity and lower asset prices, as well as an uncertain outlook for the markets and the economy, are also pushing the US bank to cut costs.
