BUSINESS MANAGEMENT & ADMINISTRATION ❖ OFFICE MANAGEMENT ❖ FINANCE The Business Management & Administration career cluster prepares students for careers in planning, organizing, directing and evaluating business functions that are essential to business operations. The Finance career cluster prepares students for careers in financial and investment planning, banking, insurance, and corporate financial management. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in business, management, and finance occupations is expected to grow by 8% between 2020 and 2030. Globalization, a growing economy and a complex tax and regulatory environment are expected to continue to lead to strong demand for accountants and auditors. In addition, the increasing use of data and market research to understand customers and product demand and evaluate marketing strategies will lead to a growing demand for market research analysts. |
FBLA is a state-recognized Career Technical Student Organization that improves the quality and relevance of Business courses. Membership in FBLA is recommended for all students taking business classes.

BUSINESS I (Introduction to Business & Marketing) – One block; A semester; One credit; Recommended for 9th-10th grade, but open to 11th-12th grade; Condition: none.
Interested in becoming an entrepreneur? Then this is the lesson for you! Introduction to Business and Marketing helps students prepare for the growing complexity of the business world by exploring the fundamentals of business, marketing and finance, in addition to exploring key aspects of leadership, ethical and social responsibilities and careers.
BUSINESS II (business communication) – one block; A semester; One credit; 9th – 12th grade; Requirements: None.
Business Communication is a hands-on course where students build confidence in their communication skills. Topics include college/career planning, job interviews, netiquette, business writing, desktop publishing, and oral communication. Students develop computer skills as they create presentations, promotional flyers, social media campaigns, resumes, cover letters, spreadsheets, and charts. Students will also practice conflict resolution strategies and explore cross-cultural communication skills.
BUSINESS IIA (accounting I) – one block; A semester; One credit; 10th – 12th grade; Prerequisite: Business I (Introduction to Business & Marketing). To complete the finance study program, students take this course, Accounting II DE and Statistics.
Accounting I is an essential course for students who want to pursue careers in business and finance, and it is the first level course in the Finance program of study or the second level course in the Business Management program of study. Students will develop skills to analyze business transactions, journalize, post and prepare worksheets and financial statements, and apply financial analysis to business processes. In addition, students are exposed to the ethical considerations faced by accountants and the standards of practice that apply to their work, such as the GAAP (generally accepted accounting procedures) standards.
BUSINESS III (Business Management)—One block; A semester; One credit; 11th – 12th grade; Prerequisite: Business I (Introduction to Bus. & Marketing). Business II (Business Communications) is recommended.
This course focuses on planning, organizing, directing and controlling functions necessary for the production and delivery of goods and services. Students learn how to manage employees, equipment, and capital to achieve business goals. Throughout the course, students will act as management consultants to study a local business and make recommendations for improvement.
BUSINESS III SDC (Introduction to Business DUAL CREDIT) (SoS) (C12H44) – One Semester; One credit; Requirements: 11th-12th grade only. Business I and Business II (Bus. Communications) recommended.

This double credit course provides an introduction to the business environment. Topics include business ownership and organization, management, marketing, business ethics, accounting, economics, finance, and business careers. All students take the challenge exam for free to earn college credit.
ACCOUNTING II DUAL ENROLLMENT – College Credit Opportunity available. single block; A semester; One high school credit; Three credits; 10th -12th grade; Prerequisites and/or Prerequisites: Students must have a “C” or higher in Accounting I or instructor approval to take Accounting II DE.

Accounting II is the second level course in the Finance study programme. Students taking Accounting II Dual Enrollment earn one high school credit in Accounting II and three credits in Accounting 1010 from Roane State Community College.
