Restaurant Brands International Inc. (TSX:QSR). Down from $2.58, or 2.82 percent, to $88.79. Tim Hortons’ parent company released new details on Tuesday about the financial performance of its Canadian coffee shops that appear to shed light on some franchisees’ concerns about restaurant-level profitability. Restaurant Brands International Inc. said the average Tim Hortons restaurants in Canada made $220,000 in revenue before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) last year, with the average franchisee owning four locations. The last time the company revealed restaurant-level numbers was for 2018, when the average location made $320,000 and franchisees owned an average of 3.5 locations. The numbers suggest the average Tim Hortons franchisee earned $880,000 before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization in 2022, down more than 20 percent from $1.1 million four years ago.
TC Energy Corp. (TSX:TRP). An increase of 78 cents, or 1.40 percent, to $56.42. TC Energy Corp. expects to indicate this summer whether or not it will complete the Coastal GasLink pipeline for the year-end target. The Calgary-based pipeline company, which has been plagued by unexpected construction problems and rising labor costs for the project, said earlier this month it has raised the estimated cost of the pipeline to $14.5 billion, up from a previous estimate of $14.5 billion. 11.2 billion. Construction of the pipeline is approximately 84 percent complete. However, TC Energy has warned that if construction continues well into 2024, it could add another $1.2 billion to the cost of the project. On a conference call with analysts on Tuesday, CEO François Poirier said the company still believes it can complete the project by the end of 2023 and is working toward that goal with a “relentless focus”.
