Major US stock indices fell. The S&P 500 fell 0.4%. The Dow Industrials fell 0.2%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite fell 0.5%.
Regional banks came under pressure again as concerns remained about their stability. PacWest lost about 6%, while Western Alliance lost more than 2%.
Shares of electric vehicle makers Lucid and Fisker fell after they reported quarterly results, while data company Palantir boomed.
PayPal also dropped about 10% after reporting earnings late Monday. The payments giant largely beat analysts’ expectations, but lowered its year-over-year adjusted operating margin outlook.
Oil prices appeared poised for further volatility, with Brent crude falling 1.1% to $76.19 a barrel after rising 2.3% in the previous session. Saudi Arabia’s national oil company said quarterly profits fell by nearly a fifth as oil prices plummeted on concerns about the global economy.
Foreign indices largely fell. The Hang Seng index fell 2.1% while the Shanghai Composite index fell 1.1% after data showed Chinese imports fell 7.9% in April.
