Fair today: As the Bakri Eid 2023 festival is celebrated across the country, trading on NSE (National Exchange) and BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange) remains suspended on Thursday. This means that there will be no trading activity in the Indian stock market today. Earlier, the scholarship holiday for Bakri Eid 2023 was announced on June 28, 2023, but the Eid ul Adha holiday was pushed back one day to June 29, 2023 upon notification from the General Administration of Maharashtra.
To clarify the reason for revising the scholarship holiday for Bakri Eid 2023, NSE notice said, “As per the attached notice of General Administration of Maharashtra dated June 26, 2023 regarding change in holiday due to Bakri ID on June 29, 2023 and in a partial amendment to the Exchange Circular dated December 8, 2022, Members may note the change to the June 2023 Trading Holiday from June 28, 2023 to June 29, 2023.”
According to the circular issued by BSE and NSE, there will be no Equity Segment, Equity Derivative Segment and SLB Segment action today. Trading of currency derivative segments also remains suspended in the Indian stock market today for the nationwide Bakri Eid celebration.
No action on MCX, NCDEX?
In the Commodity Derivatives Segment and Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) Segment, trading activity remains suspended in the morning session from 9am to 5pm. However, trading activity in the Commodity Derivatives Segment and the Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) Segment remains open in the evening session. This means that trading in these segments will resume at 5:00 PM and will end at the usual daily time, which is 11:30 PM.
According to the June 2023 stock market holiday list, Eid ul Adha or Bakri Eid is the only stock market holiday that falls in this month. Prior to Bakri Eid 223, the Indian stock market was closed on May 1, 2023 for Maharashtra Day celebrations.
Next holiday after Bakri Eid falls on 15 August 2023 for Independence Day celebrations across the country. In August, only one fair holiday falls on 15 August 2023. However, after Bakri Eid 2023, there will be 7 more fair holidays left and those fair holidays are Independence Day 2023 (August 15, 2023), Ganesh Chaturthi (September 19, 2023), Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti (October 2, 2023 ), Dussehra (October 24, 2023), Diwali Balipratipada (November 14, 2023), Gurunanak Jayanti (November 27, 2023) and Christmas (December 25, 2023).
Historic Wednesday for the Indian stock market
Following strong global signals of positive economic news from the US that allayed global growth concerns, the Indian stock market made history on Wednesday as both NSE Nifty and BSE Sensex rose to new highs. After failing to reach a new high by just one point last week, the Nifty 50 index finally climbed to a new lifetime high of 19,011, while BSE Sensex reached a new high of 64,037 respectively. Bank Nifty finished 206 points higher at 44,327 points.
