The new restaurant at Gary Neville’s hotel in Manchester closed just four months after it opened – and days after it was announced, the sports pundit joined Dragons’ Den.
The Stock Market Grill replaced celebrity chef Tom Kerridge’s Bull and Bear and the Manchester United legend’s Stock Exchange Hotel in central Manchester when it opened on March 1 this year.
The hotel issued a statement this morning saying it had made the decision to “close the doors of Stock Market Grill with immediate effect.” The restaurant was not run by Neville, but by the owners of the hotel’s cocktail bar, Sterling.
The news came less than a week after it was announced that 48-year-old Neville would be joining the cast of business moguls in the BBC reality show Dragons’ Den.
The tycoon has ventures in everything from hospitality and real estate to digital marketing that have raised millions of pounds.

The Stock Market Grill restaurant was a first taste of dining from the brothers behind the award-winning Schofield’s Bar – Joe and Daniel Schofield – along with wine expert James Brandwood

The hotel issued a statement Monday morning saying it had made the decision to “close the doors of Stock Market Grill with immediate effect.”
However, he has also faced setbacks amid claims that one of his Manchester luxury hotels lost £3.2m to the pandemic and owed ‘£10m in loans’.
And Gary has been listed in the past for ads for minimum wage workers for the staff of one of his luxury hotels – who can charge upwards of 800 a night for a suite.
The Stock Market Grill restaurant was a first taste of dining from the brothers behind the award-winning Schofield’s Bar – Joe and Daniel Schofield – along with wine expert James Brandwood. They already ran the hotel’s basement cocktail bar Sterling, which will continue to operate.
A statement was released this morning by the Stock Exchange Hotel announcing the restaurant’s shock closure. It said: ‘Stock Exchange Hotel has made the decision to close the doors of Stock Market Grill effective July 3.
However, the restaurant will continue to serve breakfast and in-room dining to all overnight guests.
In the meantime, the focus is on Sterling, the premium cocktail bar in The Vault at the Stock Exchange Hotel. The team continues to develop the Sterling concept and offerings.”
The statement concluded: ‘Further details on the new Stock Exchange Hotel F&B [food and beverage] concept will be revealed in due course.”
At the time of the launch, Joe Schofield said how much he and his brother were looking forward to launching their first city center restaurant.
He said, “This will be our first restaurant venture, but we have 20 years of experience in world-class restaurants in that time.
He added: ‘In a nutshell, our concept is a British brasserie, championing dishes we love and taking to the next level, refining them with great produce and working with the seasons. To be honest, we’re just really excited about continuing the legacy of Tom and his team.
“They’ve done a great job and we absolutely love this space and so we’re just looking forward to continuing.”
The restaurant had a minor makeover from Michelin star chef Tom Kerridge and his team’s previous Bull and Bear offerings.
The main change was the divisive TV screens on the walls.

It opened with Chef Joshua Reed-Cooper at the helm, who had previously worked at Michelin Star Manchester restaurant Mana.
The starter menu included starters (ranging from 12 to 16) including a steak tartare with a beef fat egg yolk, a bitter endive salad with sharp Berkswell cheese.
Mains included an ex dairy ribeye steak for a pricey 55 and chips for 7.
