Benchmark index rises by 35.55 points – The Himalayan Times – Nepal’s No.1 English Daily Newspaper

KATHMANDU, JULY 15

The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index rose 35.55 points or 1.73 percent in the trading week between July 9 and 13 to reach 2,084.93 points.

The sensitive index, which measures the performance of class “A” stocks, rose 2.38 percent to 391.25 points during the reporting period.

Meanwhile, the float index, which measures the performance of shares actually traded, rose 1.54 percent, or 2.16 points, to settle at 144.05 in the rating week.

A total of 45.41 million shares were traded through 310,890 trades during the assessment week amounting to more than Rs 16.27 billion. Weekly turnover fell by more than 8.85 percent compared to the previous week, when 45.03 million shares had changed hands through 308,798 transactions totaling Rs 17.86 billion.

Meanwhile, the average daily turnover in the past week was more than Rs 3.57 billion and fell to Rs 3.25 billion this week.

The reference index opened at 2,049.38 points on Sunday and rose 28.38 points to 2,077.76 points at the time of closing. The market lost 0.80 points to settle at 2,076.96 on Monday before losing 4.72 points to close at 2072.24 on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the market gained 23.31 points, but lost 12.62 points on Thursday to settle at 2,084.93 points for the week.

Apart from hydropower, the other subgroups ended up in the green this week.

Development banks led the pack of winners, rising 14.12 percent to 3,874.21 points, followed by microfinance, up 3.90 percent to 4,010.47 points; finance rose 70.11 percent to 1,928.11 points; manufacturing and processing up 3.53 percent to 5,612.77 points; mutual funds rose 3.41 percent to 0.49 points; others rose 2.63 percent to 39.52 points; trade was up 2.07 percent to 2,642.49 points; and non-life insurance gained 1.79 percent to 196.11 points; banking by 1.47 percent to 1,218.55 points; investment by 1.40 percent to 1,218.55 points; investment by 1.40 percent to 72.60 points; hotels and tourism with 0.74 percent to 5,810.02 points and life insurance with 0.22 to 26.71 percent to 11,998.13 points.

Meanwhile, hydropower fell 0.09 percent to 2,384.54 points.
