HONG KONG (Reuters) – The Hong Kong Stock Exchange halted trading on both the securities and derivatives markets on Monday due to the approaching Typhoon Talim.

The Hong Kong Observatory said storm signal No. 8 would remain in effect until at least 4 p.m. (0800 GMT).

Under the rules of the exchange, the morning trading session will be suspended if the typhoon signal remains at 8 or higher at 09:00 Hong Kong time (0100 GMT).

The stock market will remain closed for the rest of the day if there is still typhoon signal 8 by noon.

The storm did not cause major damage, although the Observatory did warn of possible flooding in some areas.
