SEOUL, June 18 (Korea Bizwire)A new service displays politicians’ support rate as stock prices, so users can buy or sell them as they please.

PoliGround, a local startup, said Thursday it had launched a beta service of the same name.

This service, a political exchange, lists politicians on a virtual exchange and sets prices for each of them based on transactions between members.

In other words, stock prices become a focal point for any politician and act as a real-time index of public opinion.

The exchange will first list 322 politicians, including President Moon Jae-in, ministers, incumbent representatives and potential presidential candidates.

Investors can use a non-refundable online currency (10 million won), which is issued once the user joins, to make mock investments to learn more about politics and economics.

Poliground seeks to overcome the limits of representative democracy, which only reflects people’s will through the voting system, by introducing a real-time public opinion index that portrays politicians as independent stock prices, rather than party-to-party competition.
