One woman’s sunscreen technique has sparked outrage and confusion online.
Maren Reed, a Texas skin specialist, shared a video on TikTok showing her method of applying sunscreen.
In the clip, you can look in the video player above, she smears her face in so much cream that her face is completely covered with SPF.
The generous amount of sunscreen she uses makes it look like she’s wearing a mask.
I look crazy now, she says.
She then starts rubbing in the sunscreen.
Okay, we’re all wiped out. Good morning everyone. I hope you’re wearing your SPF today, she says.
The clip left many confused because of the amount of sunscreen she was using.
Why so much? Is that a normal amount? one person asked.
I just don’t understand the point of so much sunscreen? asked another.
I am confused? Why so much? asked another.
Despite the confusion, many admitted that the technique had to work.
I want to get mad at how over the top this is, but her skin is so beautiful, wrote another.
I was too much at first, but seeing how flawless your skin was at the end made me realize I wasn’t wearing enough, wrote another.
Why is sunscreen important?
Wearing sunscreen on your face is an easy and low-maintenance way to protect your skin from the harsh rays of the sun.
Wearing sunscreen regularly puts you at risk for both short-term and long-term damage.
SPF stands for sun protection factor. Many dermatologists recommend wearing SPF 30 because it can block up to 97 percent of the sun’s UVB rays, which can cause sunburn and skin cancer.
