Chatham-Kent Public Health has learned that a shipment of the Pfizer vaccine is being postponed this week.
As a result, scheduled appointments at the Bradley Center in Chatham on Wednesday, June 23 will be affected. Appointments for youth ages 12 to 17 will still receive the Pfizer vaccine, while adults ages 18 and older will receive the Moderna vaccine.
“We are fortunate to have additional Moderna stock in stock at this time, so no appointments need to be canceled,” the health unit said in a statement released Monday. “Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech are both mRNA vaccines and are so similar that they are interchangeable. To ensure maximum protection against COVID-19 and the Delta variant, CK Public Health recommends that Chatham-Kent residents be fully vaccinated as soon as possible, with the first vaccine available to them. Those wishing to receive Pfizer-BioNTech will have to reschedule their appointment.”
The remaining Pfizer vaccine appointments scheduled from June 24 to June 26 will not be affected by the shipping delay.
