Buc-ees is expanding all over the south, planting its largest site yet.
The Texas-sized, Texas-based chain will build a new Buc-ees in Sevierville, Tennessee, which, when completed, will be the world’s largest supermarket, occupying 74,000 square feet. That will break the record set by the Buc-ees in New Braunfels, Texas, at 66,335 square feet.
According to WHAT, Kituwah, LLC and Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians announced details for the store on Tuesday. The Buc-ees Family Travel Center will have 120 gas stations, EV charging stations and a car wash over 80 meters long.
It will anchor a 200-acre development, The 407: Gateway to Adventure.
The 407, which broke new ground last year, would eventually become a world-class golf attraction, go-cart facility and distillery.
Stan Beard, real estate director for Buc-ees, said it was no accident that the company chose Sevierville for its first major retail location outside of Texas.
The 407 is expected to attract 6.7 million visitors in its first year of operation once the first phase is completed.
We will be the proverbial welcome sign at the front door of the exceptional travel experience the Smoky Mountains, Sevierville and Sevier County have to offer, Beard said.
Buc-ees has offices in Baldwin County and Leeds, with one planned in Athens. Auburn is also considered, as is the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Buc-ees is known for its unique offerings, which include Texas BBQ, homemade fudge, kolaches, Beaver nuggets, jerky and fresh pastries. The company was founded in Texas in 1982.
