Petrol and diesel prices remain at record highs. Check rates in Delhi, Mumbai, other cities

The cost of petrol in Delhi remained up 100.56 per liter while diesel is currently at . state 89.62. In Mumbai, petrol is sold to: 106.59 per liter, while diesel on 97.18 per litre. Petrol price in Kolkata remained unchanged at 100.62 for a liter and 92.65 per liter for diesel. The price of gasoline in Chennai is 101.37 per liter, while that of diesel is 94.15 per litre.

During the sixth rise this month on Thursday, gasoline in the national capital rose by 35 paise, while diesel rose by 9 paise, according to price reports by oil retailers.

The national capital had become the last metro city on Wednesday where car fuel exceeded the 100-a-liter brand. It has so far crossed the psychological line in at least 10 state capitals.

Fuel prices vary from state to state, depending on the impact of local taxes such as value added tax (VAT) and freight charges.

As much as 55% of the retail price of petrol in Delhi consists of taxes ( 32.90 liters of excise duty collected by the central government and 22.80 VAT levied by the state government). Half of the diesel price consists of taxes ( 31.80 central excise tax and 13.04 state VAT).
