Southern California Edison said Monday it plans to add about 38,000 electric vehicle chargers across its service area as part of its $346 million Charge Ready program.
The company said it would complete the installations over the next five years.
“Through Charge Ready, SCE installs and maintains the supporting EV charging infrastructure, while location hosts, who are non-residential SCE customers, typically own, operate and maintain qualified charging stations,” the company said.
The company said its new program is based on a pilot in which it partnered with businesses, the local government and others to install more than 2,700 charging ports in nearly 150 locations.
The company said it will “continue to focus on providing charging infrastructure in workplaces, public parking, schools, hospitals and destination centers, with an additional emphasis on condominium and apartment complexes.”
The goal of the program is to locate 50% of chargers in state-designated underserved and economically affected communities suffering the negative effects of air pollution, the company said.
