UC Riverside’s COVID-19 cases remained low during the first two months of returning to work and teaching primarily in person on campus.

Only 70 positive cases of COVID-19 were reported among faculty, staff and students between September 5 and October 27, according to the campus COVID-19 management group.

Students accounted for 40 cases while 30 cases were reported by employees. Individuals were on campus during the infectious period in 44 of the total cases, while for the remaining 26, individuals were off campus.

UCR reopened in the fall term with approximately 80% of classes meeting in person and student accommodation returning to normal capacity. The number of students registered for the fall is 26,847.

As part of the return to campus, the UC system has implemented a vaccination mandate for students and employees.

Immunization rates at the RCU have exceeded the 90% target set by a UC-wide committee with 96% of students vaccinated while the combined rate of students and staff is approximately 95%.

Other COVID-19 safety precautions include the requirement for indoor face covers, online wellness checks, and periodic testing.
