The new XBB.1.5 subvariant becomes dominant in the United States
XBB.1.5 – this is the new subvariant of COVID-19 that is rapidly becoming the dominant strain in the United States
A new variant of Omicron known as XBB.1.5 is reportedly spreading rapidly nationwide as doctors say COVID-19 continues to evolve.
The XBB variant would be different from the original coronavirus stain. It comes three years after COVID-19 caused mass shutdowns, testing, vaccines, recalls and more.

XBB would evade antibodies formed during previous infections and vaccinations. The Wall Street Journal reports that “repeated vaccinations can make people more susceptible to XBB.”
Unlike previous variants, Omicron powered additional variants. Even so, some in the medical community caution that these latest XBB studies shouldn’t deter people from getting the COVID-19 vaccine and booster shots.

FOX 5 spoke with PM Pediatrics’ senior medical advisor, Dr. Christina Johns. She urges everyone to be vigilant with hand washing and more as many return to school and work.
A published study indicates that the emergence of multiple variants is unprecedented. Despite the study, hospitalizations and deaths from COVID-19 are believed to be on the decline.
