Tecatito Corona back from injury: I need to feel like a footballer again

[ad_1]

For Jess Manuel Corona, the past few months have been a nightmare – and by far the most trying time of her professional career. Tecatito suffered a serious injury that saw him miss the season with Sevilla as well as the Qatar World Cup, in which a decaffeinated Mexican side struggled and didn’t even make it past the group stage.

Now fully recovered and eager to feel like a footballer again, Corona is gradually finding his groove in the Spanish top flight. Last weekend he played his first competitive game since August. He was brought on for the final 10 minutes of Sevilla’s away encounter against Real Valladolid and celebrated by scoring the third goal in stoppage time – showing great composure and control inside the box before launching a ferocious strike past Jordi Masip.

Grateful to teammates, club, supporters

The 30-year-old Mexican is relieved to be able to participate in the last matches of the campaign. It was a time in my life where I never imagined I would go. I know life brings hard things and there will be many more to come – hopefully not many. But I never thought something like this would happen to me. I had a lot of trouble, and my family too. My son asked me. Ho are you doing? Will you come back? and you have no idea how much a thing like that hurts, you want to be there, but you can’t, Corona explained this week. With the help of my family and my teammates and people at the club, from all over Sevilla, everyone has been great to me. They helped me get things done and come out the other side.

World Cup 2026

At 30, Tecatito could be one of the cornerstones of Diego Coccas’ scheme for the next World Cup which will be played simultaneously in the United States, Mexico and Canada. In fact, now without Andrs Guardado and possibly Hctor Moreno or Hctor Herrera, the young Rayados player will have to step up.

Remaining matches in Sevilla May 17 Juventus (Europa League semi-final second leg – 1-1) May 21 Betis (M) May 24 Elche (A) May 28 Real Madrid (M) June 4 Real Sociedad (A)

His club, Sevilla, are currently 10th in La Liga but only one point from the European qualifying places. Tonight, the Andalusians will try to book their place in the Europa League with their semi-final against Juventus on the verge of 1-1. Although Corona is not entered in the competition (due to his injury), he will provide support from the stands. After so many months on the sidelines, grueling rehabilitation sessions and hospital visits, things have finally started to look up for Tecatito, who is more of a footballer with each passing day.
