The U.S. card services company Mastercard Inc has said it wants to make it more convenient for its users to buy, spend and hold cryptocurrency.
Dubbed “Start Path,” this global start-up engagement program plans to work with digital asset, blockchain and cryptocurrency companies to develop digital asset technology.
According to the press release, all startups participating in the program will tackle many issues such as asset tokenization, digital security and seamless access between traditional and digital economies.
So far, seven crypto-focused startups have already joined the program, including Uphold and Domain Money, well-known investment platforms in building digital assets. Singapore-based non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace Mintable, Israel-based crypto custodial platform GK8, which offers a vault, and Switzerland-based Taurus, which provides enterprise-grade infrastructure for management digital assets, are also involved.
Key role in digital assets
As a leading technology player, we believe we can play a key role in digital assets, helping to shape the industry and ensure consumer protection and safety, said Jess Turner, Vice President Mastercard executive for new digital infrastructure and fintech.
Mastercard has been involved in the digital currency ecosystem since 2015.
Part of our role is to forge the future of cryptocurrency, and we were doing it by connecting traditional financial principles with innovations in digital assets. “
Mastercard also intends to make the exchange of digital currencies into fiat currencies more efficient and is working with Circle, Paxos Trust Company and Evolve Bank & Trust.
The company announced a new project last week that will integrate USDC stablecoin as a means of facilitating crypto-to-fiat conversions into its payment facilities.
