Google is running crypto ads again after its updated policy on financial products and services came into full effect on August 3.
The multinational giant banned crypto-related and initial coin offering (ICO) ads in June 2018, and the updated policy allows regulated crypto entities to re-market their services. ICOs have been left out, however.
Google’s crypto advertising policy review was first presented in June and states that advertisers offering cryptocurrency exchanges and wallets targeting U.S. consumers are allowed to advertise their services and products. ‘they meet specific requirements.
The move will generate additional sales for Google’s parent company Alphabet, although crypto ads are likely just a drop in the ocean of the company’s $ 147 billion ad revenue.
Google’s strict requirements are designed to eliminate shady ads and blatant crypto scams. The company will not allow advertisements for ICOs, DeFi trading protocols, or the promotion of buying, selling or trading cryptocurrencies. Crypto celebrity mentions are also banned, which may in part help address the issues with fake celebrity mentions.

The updated Google policy also prohibits crypto ads from connecting to websites that host cryptocurrency trading signals, cryptocurrency investing tips, aggregators, or affiliate sites that contain related content. or broker reviews.
Last month, TikTok announced that crypto-based promotional content has been banned as part of a move to prevent all financial services and products from advertising on the platform.
