American fast food chain quiznos now accept Bitcoin for sandwiches

U.S. fast food giant Quiznos has started accepting Bitcoin payments for its sandwiches and other offerings, the company said in a press release. Quiznos has partnered with digital asset provider Bakkt in the United States to enable customers to pay in Bitcoin. The brand will launch a pilot program at outlets in Denver in August, to see if people want to use it to buy food.

After a massive bull run at the start of the year, cryptocurrency prices have fallen over time, but the market is still very valuable. The price of Bitcoin remains well above its 2020 levels at this point. According to Coindesk, Bitcoin was trading at $ 39,304 (Rs. 29 lakh, approximately) at the time of writing.

As a result, more and more companies are now starting to accept payments in cryptocurrencies, to build up their stocks of assets that many believe still have great potential for growth. Sheela Zemlin, director of revenue at Bakkt, described in a statement that the pilot project was an exciting time for the company. Through this partnership, Zemlin said, Bakkt is bringing the Bitcoin utility to the mainstream market. “

For now, companies will “closely monitor” this pilot program before deciding to extend the partnership to other locations in the United States. The statement said that customers would get $ 15 (around Rs. 1,100) worth of Bitcoin as a reward if they bought Bitcoin from the Bakkt app and paid via cryptocurrency for their Quiznos meal.

The app, which launched in 2019, has partnered with retail chains and other companies to facilitate Bitcoin transactions. The goal is to make digital assets as liquid as fiat currency, like the US dollar or Indian rupee. The app is available on iOS and Android.
