Marathon Digital Holdings released updates on the company’s bitcoin production and mining operations for the month of July and bitcoin production increased 66% month over month. In addition, financial services giant Fidelity Investments bought a 7.4% stake in Marathon in July, spending around $ 20 million on the shares.
Fidelity Investments buys Marathon shares for $ 20 million
Boston-based Fidelity Investments is one of the world’s largest asset managers, managing $ 4.9 trillion in assets under management (AUM). Fidelity has been involved in cryptocurrencies and blockchain for years and on July 22, Fidelity invested $ 20 million to buy a 7.4% stake in Marathon Digital Holdings (Nasdaq: MARA).
Fidelity added stocks to four index funds, including Fidelity Series Total Market Index Fund (FCFMX), Fidelity Extended Market Index Fund (FSMAX), Fidelity Total Market Index Fund (FSKAX) and Fidelity Nasdaq Composite Index Fund (FNCFX) . Fidelity’s choice to spread crypto investment vehicles into index funds with a valuation of $ 170 billion is part of a growing trend among asset managers to manage digital currency products.
Fidelity joins Marathon investors like Vanguard, Blackrock, Susquehanna
Marathon also revealed this week that it has signed an agreement to purchase 30,000 Antminer bitcoin mining rigs from Bitmain. Following the announcement, Marathon released statistics on its performance in July. The company noted that it had seen a significant month-over-month increase in bitcoin production to 422.2 BTC worth more than $ 16 million. The company’s audit explains that the company’s BTC holdings today stand at around 6,225.6 BTC worth $ 236 million at the time of writing.
In addition to Fidelity, a number of other major financial institutions have purchased shares of Marathon. To date, Blackrock owns 1.59% of Marathon, Susquehanna has a 2.7% stake in the mining company, and Vanguard Group owns approximately 7.58% of MARA shares. Marathon’s audit in July also indicates that the company received approximately 19,401 S19 Pro ASIC miners from Bitmain over the past year. To date, the Marathon fleet has approximately 19,395 active miners who produce approximately 2 exahash per second (EH / s) of hashrate.
