AMC to allow Bitcoin purchases by end of 2021

Throughout the past year, GameStop has almost certainly been the business and action that controlled much of the news cycle with its unlikely increase in value. However, AMC is another that has been hiding on the outskirts of GameStop for almost always. There was a similar effort to increase the value of AMC shares around the same time as GameStop, although it didn’t take off as much as GameStop. Even so, AMC is still on the move and aims to stay relevant in tough times for movie theaters. Apparently AMC will start allowing Bitcoin as payment on transactions by the end of the year.

The news was reported on a earnings conference call alongside AMC’s second quarter 2021 results. In that call, AMC executives revealed that their plan to allow payments via Bitcoin on purchases of movie tickets and snacks.

“I must have learned more over the past six months about blockchain and cryptocurrency than I have learned over the past decade,” said Adam Aron, CEO of AMC.

AMC has had some interesting peaks this year, often coinciding with stories related to GameStop. It started an abysmal year, peaked, came to a halt, then exploded in June to a high of over US $ 60.

This is apparently just the beginning of AMC’s desire to get into cryptocurrency as well. According to Aron, the company is actively seeking other opportunities to participate in the cryptocurrency market.

“We are exploring how AMC can participate in this new burgeoning cryptocurrency universe, and we are quite intrigued by some potentially lucrative activities. [opportunities]. “

AMC left little confusion that it shouldn’t stay in the ongoing conversations about stocks and popular markets. It found itself in an interesting position earlier this year when many of those who took to GameStop to increase its value did the same with AMC stocks as well. To that end, AMC has also suggested that it would be open to partnering with GameStop although there is little reason for it at this time.

Cryptocurrency is also an extremely popular investment at the moment, with the value of popular markets like Bitcoin and Dogecoin fluctuating wildly. This could very well be part of several AMC ploys to ensure it doesn’t fall back into the sorry state it was in with the pandemic and the related growth in popularity of alternative movie viewing services. That said, we’ll see if these schemes pay off for AMC soon enough as it opens its cryptocurrency business with Bitcoin later this year.
