A tech millionaire opened the doors to his $ 15 million Sydney oceanfront “fortress” for the first time after making his fortune in crypto.
Fred Schebesta gave TikTok star Fonzie Gomez a tour of his magnificent five bedroom mansion in Sydney, Australia. The father-of-one invested in bitcoin in 2017 when the price was only worth $ 4,000.
Bitcoin has seen an astronomical increase in recent years, making many early-stage investors rich beyond their wildest dreams. In early 2021, blockchain currency peaked at over $ 80,000 per coin, around the time Elon Musk said Tesla would start accepting cryptocurrency.
Schebesta, the founder and CEO of financial comparison site Finder, bought “Coogee Castle” in May from Macquarie Bank executive director Laurie Macri and his wife Christine after the Bitcoin rush.
The substantial mansion once belonged to ad guru John Singleton in 2005. The cliffside mansion – renowned for its glass, stone, and galvanized steel features – offers stunning ocean views.
After opening the door to his house, Schebesta tells Gomez that “the crypto built this house.”
In 1994, the house was designed by architect Renato D’Ettorre to resemble “a castle surrounded by a moat floating above the ocean”.
The five bedrooms, four of which are en-suite, are located on the upper level of the mansion.
On the ground floor are the gym, heated infinity pool and hot tub.
Schebesta said he sacrificed “health, family time, friendships” while amassing his “nearly billion dollar empire”.
Last year, the 39-year-old chief executive ranked 26th on the Australian Financial Review’s rich young list.
Before his millions, Schebesta worked in a Pizza Hut call center as a college student. In 2019, his fortune increased from around $ 192 million to $ 212 million in 2020 despite the coronavirus crisis.

Last week, Schebesta said he predicted bitcoin would be worth six times as much by 2025.
Despite the volatility of crypto, the millionaire said bitcoin will be worth more than £ 32,000 by the end of 2021 and nearly £ 178,000 by 2025.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said: “It’s no secret I’m a huge fan of bitcoin and cryptocurrency.
“I believe technology will change the way people access money and create a more just financial system.”
