Seventeen years ago, dentist Enrique Berrios went to El Zonte for his dental internship and ended up staying there for a long time. After seeking to stay away from the big cities so that he could settle down and establish a small dental practice in El Zonte to help those in need of care, he found that the elderly had been forgotten and had a need. urgent dental treatment.

Being able to afford dentures and other dental care is a pipe dream for many older people in El Zonte. Due to the lack of dental care, many of their teeth have decayed and fallen out, making it difficult to eat food. Many have had to focus their diet on soft tortillas and even swallow whole foods because they can’t chew. In addition, many elderly people in rural areas cannot make the long journey to the Berrios dental office.

“We’re trying to focus on the people who really need the help and that’s a lot of the elderly,” Berrios said. “Like I said, they are forgotten and are alone in these rural areas.”

All proceeds will go to Berrios’ dental practice, Diente Zonte, to help patients get the dental care they need to improve their lives. If their 1 BTC goal is surpassed, all other profits will go to new portable equipment and supplies to help reach more patients in rural and remote areas.
