Bitcoin is a decentralized form of currency that is not authorized by any government or banking authority
In March 2021, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced on Twitter that the automaker would accept the most popular and largest cryptocurrency, Bitcoin as a payment method to purchase electric vehicles. The option to make payments using Bitcoin was only possible in the United States at the time; however, Elon Musk had announced that Tesla was working on ways to extend the payment method to other countries as well. Less than two months after making the announcement, Mr. Musk posted a tweet in May indicating that Tesla will no longer accept Bitcoin as a payment method. Mr Musk cited climate change as the main reason for the company’s decision to stop accepting cryptocurrency.
Bitcoin mining has been deemed harmful by environmentalists because the consumption of electricity and electricity is excessive. Questions have been raised as to whether the electricity comes from renewable sources or from fossil fuels. These concerns prompted Mr. Musk to officially announce Tesla’s withdrawal from acceptance of Bitcoin.
However, recently at the B Word cryptocurrency conference, Mr Musk said that Tesla will most likely resume acceptance of Bitcoin. In June, he confirmed in a tweet that if Bitcoin mining was greener, Tesla would resume accepting cryptocurrency as a form of payment. When there is confirmation of reasonable (around 50%) clean energy use by miners with a positive future trend, Tesla will resume allowing Bitcoin transactions, Mr Musk tweeted.
This is incorrect. Tesla only sold around 10% of the holdings to confirm that BTC could be liquidated easily without moving the market.

Bitcoin is a decentralized form of currency that is not authorized by any government or banking authority. It operates on a blockchain network that stores information in a public ledger relating to all transactions made using the cryptocurrency. In order to circulate new Bitcoins through the system, a process called mining is used. People who add new Bitcoins to the public ledger on the blockchain are called miners.
