The co-founder and CEO of crypto investment firm CMT Digital is stepping down, according to two people familiar with the matter.
Colleen Sullivan’s next step is not known, and it is not yet clear who will assume her responsibilities. The company did not respond to a request for comment.
Chicago-based CMT Digital, a subsidiary of the CMT Group, operates early-stage blockchain venture capital funds, maintains an in-house proprietary trading desk, and also maintains a presence in the lobbying industry for crypto. currencies in the United States. Sullivan is also a partner of parent company CMT Group, which operates proprietary trading and trades a wide assortment of alternative assets. Chicago-based Sullivan additionally holds the title of Director of Silvergate Bank, which is engaged in a series of projects in the blockchain industry.
“It’s a big loss for CMT,” a source said, adding that Sullivan was presumably leaving to pursue a new top-notch opportunity.
The CMT Group started exploring cryptocurrencies in 2013 and made an initial investment in Bitcoin in 2016. Sullivan helped form CMT Digital in 2017. She led the push for CMT Digital to help form the DeFi Alliance in 2020.
Sullivan transformed the business into an operation employing more than 20 professionals. Its venture capital portfolio has stakes in at least 36 companies in the portfolio, according to the company’s website.

Prior to launching CMT Digital, Sullivan worked as a lawyer with a strong presence in the alternative investment industries, most recently as a Managing Member of Sullivan Wolf Kailus of Chicago.
