Use your Bitcoin to improve your health

I found it interesting that in the early days of bitcoin people were donating this magic money over the internet and even setting up bitcoin faucets for this purpose. Roger Ver was one of the first to do this and – from what I can tell – has been very generous in handing out bitcoin. Gavin Andresen too. Regardless of what the Bitcoin community thinks of these two now, donating bitcoin was vital to growing the network early on and we are deeply indebted to them for that.

I argue that bitcoin faucets are just as, if not more important today, regardless of the price! Why? Because it puts people to zero. If you, like me, believe that bitcoin is a lifeboat, we want as many people who can transact in satoshis as possible to do so. Taps can be found in online games today and other crazy uses, but I haven’t found any that fulfill the purpose I’m suggesting.

So my question to the bitcoin community is, why aren’t more bitcoins setting up bitcoin faucets that support causes and people they love? The problems of our world do not resolve themselves. Invest in what you value most.

For example, I was an impact investor who supported smallholder farmers for many years before investing in bitcoin. About five years ago my family made a large donation to Slow Money which supports small farmers in Colorado. Unfortunately, we donated the Melting Ice Cube in US dollars.

My thought was and still is: that smallholder farmers and gardeners are the unsung heroes of our healthcare system. Invest in what you value most in your community. In my case, I value health over wealth. I value clean air, clean soil, clean water, clean food – rich in nutrients and free of toxins – clean energy and clean ecosystems. These are things our fiat money system does not like! If anything, Fiat is hostile and harmful to all. If this is true then I have to put my money where I say it and do it now. The problem of impoverished soils and bankrupt foods will not be solved and it is quickly getting worse. Money that revere consumption rather than restoration and resilience seriously harms all the ecosystems humans need to thrive.

According to Dr. Max Gerson, who pioneered the Gerson Protocol that Reverses Cancer and Other Diseases Using Nutrient-Rich Organic Foods: Soil is our external metabolism. As serious as our gaps in our knowledge about silver are, the gaps in our knowledge of soil health in our culture are even worse. And soil health will have a direct impact on the health of the community. We have all heard the expression food is medicine; well, go further and say, “soil is medicine.” Healthy soil breeds healthy food which breeds a healthy immune system.

With all of this in context, you might be wondering, “How hard would it be to set up a ground guardian bitcoin faucet?” I don’t know, but I’m not waiting for someone to start one. Instead, a young urban farmer based in Lakewood, CO came to me looking to raise US dollars from investors and instead offered to put bitcoin on his balance sheet. He agreed immediately, but he didn’t know anything about bitcoin at the time I made the offer. Once he did his homework, he was very excited about the offer. No need for an orange pill. We have since met in person, visited his farm and had him use Opendime (big thanks to Nic Carter for the idea of watching his podcast with Lex Fridman) to hold the private keys to his bitcoin. and an agreement not to touch it for at least a year. Another Bitcoiner added to the network. And a community health care hero to boot. And I didn’t hesitate to tell him that I viewed him and others who practice restorative agriculture as the most valuable health heroes.

Also, I asked him to think about which of his peers could we do it with next? He’ll think about it and we’ll do the next one together. We will follow the same process with the next small farmer who will restore the soils in our community. And once that is done, the three of us will select the fourth recipient and so on. Equals. Rinse and repeat until every small farmer in Colorado has bitcoin on their balance sheet. Now, this is something I would love to see go viral.

My passion for helping small farmers stems from my involvement in Slow Money. One of the big ideas I heard at my first Slow Money Gathering in 2013 was, “If you’re working on a project that can be done in your lifetime, you’re not thinking big enough! Instead of adopting a road, why not adopt a small farmer in your community? Put bitcoin on its balance sheet. I don’t know if we’ll do this for every small farmer in my life, but the way is clear. The health benefits of our community are 100 times better than lobbying the government for grants.

For those of you interested in starting a soil protection faucet in your community, please contact me at and I will share what I know and how I did it. I’m not sure how many peer-to-peer soil guardian faucets will be needed to support Colorado’s smallholder farmers, but I’m ready to be one of them. My only hope is that we start thousands in every state. The impact on our health by supporting thousands of small farmers can never be overestimated!

Instead of donating US dollars which tend to promote debt slavery and overconsumption, why not donate bitcoin and promote freedom and resilience? I’m all for HODLing and expect this to be the predominant mindset for most Bitcoiners. However, for wealthy baby boomers and those who operate from abundance, I issue this challenge: why wait to start tackling structural issues like soil depletion, living water, food bankruptcy and a host of other problems that will only get worse if we wait?

The old adage applies here: if not now, when? If not you, who? I am ready to help anyone who is ready to join me on this journey. Bitcoiners can turn our healthcare system into a healthcare system. It only takes ten thousand bitcoin faucets of all types.
