Coinbase is partnering with German esports organization Berlin International Gaming (BIG) in a bid to bring the worlds of gambling and crypto closer together.
The crypto exchange will receive a bundle of branding and content rights with BIG’s Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team.
The partnership will also involve community events and digital activations, according to an official press release.
This isn’t Coinbase’s first foray into the gaming world. In April, the Counter-Strike BLAST Premier esports league announced that the exchange would sponsor its spring season. The same month, Seattle-based esports organization Evil Geniuses also announced a sponsorship from Coinbase.
In July, Coinbase became the “official cryptocurrency exchange partner” at events for ESL Gaming, the world’s largest esports company.
Coinbase’s partnership with BIG comes shortly after the exchange made groundbreaking regulatory progress in Germany. In June, the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority issued the German branch of Coinbase with a license to hold and trade crypto, the first of its kind in the country.
Germany is the only country in the EU to have introduced a comprehensive regulatory framework for cryptocurrency platforms, according to Coinbase.
Daniel Finkler, CEO of BIG, says the esports partnership aims to raise awareness of crypto across the country.
“The world of cryptocurrencies is an extremely exciting environment, and my goal, through our partnership, is to make more people aware of this rapidly growing ecosystem, with all of its opportunities and risks. Coinbase has emerged as a market leader in recent years, providing customers with a safe and regulated place to securely trade and store cryptocurrencies.
