The decentralized search engine Presearch (CRYPTO: PRE) is now a default search engine option on all new and factory reset Android devices sold in the UK and EU.
What Happened: According to a recent report from Cointelegraph, the inclusion of Presearch went into effect on September 1.
The move follows a lengthy legal battle with the European Commission, alleging that Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL) was using its Android mobile operating system to consolidate the dominance of its Google search engine.
The European Commission antitrust regulator fined Google 4.24 billion euros for limiting competition from the Android platform, and in 2019 the company announced it would allow competing search engines to work on its devices.
What it means: Presearch is a decentralized search engine option that will be available along with others on Android devices in the EU and UK. The allegedly private search engine is said to process more than a million searches initiated by more than 2.3 million registered users.
Search volume has also climbed 300% since the start of the year. All Presearch searches are handled by network node operators, who are paid Ethereum PRE tokens (CRYPTO: ETH) for their work.
Price Action: Data from CoinMarketCap suggests the coin responded astoundingly to the announcement. Presearch, at the time of publication, was trading at $ 0.1212 after reporting an increase of over 91% in the past 24 hours.
