CAIRO – September 26, 2021: Twitter announced on Sunday that it was launching its tip-to-everyone feature with more payment options to choose from, including cryptocurrencies.

The tip feature, now called Tips, is an easy way to support the service’s incredible voices. This is a first step for the platform to create new ways for people to receive and show their support on Twitter – with money.

According to the platform, people are leading the conversation on Twitter and it was essential to make it easier for the community to support each other beyond subscriptions, retweets and likes. They already drop links to their payment profiles in their bio and Tweets.

Tips offers a fixed location on an individual’s profile with a link to their Cash app, Patreon, Venmo and other platforms where people can extend their support.

“Whether it’s tipping your favorite accounts because people love their comments, sending some love to emerging comedy creators for their hilarious Tweets, helping small business owners to going through tough times or contributing to important causes – whatever topic people choose to support, Tips is here to help them do it, ”he added.

The tips will be deployed on iOS and then also launched on Android in the coming weeks.

Regarding how it works, he said that users can recognize that an account has cheats enabled if they see an icon next to the Follow button on the profile page. After tapping on the icon, users will find a list of services or payment platforms that the account has enabled to use. Users can then select a preferred option from the services * available so far: Bandcamp, Cash App, Chipper, Patreon, Razorpay, Wealthsimple and Venmo.

Additionally, Twitter is adding new services to the existing list: GoFundMe, an online fundraising platform – and PicPay, a Brazilian mobile payment platform. Once users tap on the service they want to access, they will be directed to the selected app to send funds. Twitter does not take any part in Tips transfers.

In addition to the services currently enabled through Tips, users can now also tip seamlessly with Bitcoin using Strike – a payment app built on the Bitcoin Lightning Network that allows people to send and receive Bitcoin. Strike offers instant and free payments worldwide.

Twitter aims to allow its entire community to have access to channels to get paid. Digital currencies that encourage more people to participate in the economy and help people send money across borders and with as little friction as possible.

When users enable tips on their profile, they can now add their Bitcoin and Ethereum addresses as well. Individuals can copy these addresses and paste them into a Bitcoin or Ethereum wallet of their choice to send a payment directly.

Twitter clarified that individuals must be over 18 to activate tips or tip someone and agree to Twitter’s new general tip policy, which is designed to keep people safe on the service. This policy will guide Twitter’s enforcement actions, and as with all platform rules, Twitter will continue to publicly iterate this work as more and more people use the tips around the world.
