Dickens County Residents Excited About Bitcoin Mining Facility

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – On Monday night at the Palace Theater in Spur, Argo Blockchain hosted a community outreach program, to discuss the cryptocurrency mining facility at its building in Dickens County. Executives say Dickens County is bitcoin mining nirvana.

It’s a very friendly place, you know it’s a great, welcoming, business-friendly jurisdiction. Most importantly, there is low cost renewable energy. So there is a lot of wind being generated in the area, and there is not a lot of local load for us, said CEO Peter Wall.

Argo says it uses renewable forms of energy to power its mining operation. Wall says the mine will be a 200 megawatt facility, using half the amount that powers the entire town of Lubbock. The facility will be located right next to McAdoo Wind Farms Cottonwood substation, which primarily receives and distributes renewable energy.

Some residents of Dickens County said they were excited when they heard the news, but needed to study to learn more about mining bitcoin and cryptocurrency. It is estimated to be an investment of over $ 100 million in the region and that it adds 20 jobs. Spur Mayor Louise Jones said the area needed more jobs.

We don’t know what tomorrow will bring us, all we have is today. So let’s take advantage of today and let them bring something good here in Spur, TX, Jones said.

Spur Chamber of Commerce chairman Matthew McArthur said he didn’t mind the project, noting that he was happy someone was buying the electricity produced by the wind farms.

Well, I was delighted. We have an excellent electrical network with all the windmills. We have a great school system. We were thrilled to have the jobs and the property they are building is going to be excellent in terms of tax assessment. This will take a lot of the burden off taxpayers, McArthur said.

Patton Springs ISD Superintendent Bryan White said the school needed the tax revenue.

Practically, our tax base is based solely on land. We don’t have any kind of industry or anything to speak of there. So it’s going to be a huge boost to our values, you know if the numbers are what we’ve heard and stuff. So this will help our school and so our students have been looking forward to this, White said.

Argo Blockchain also announced, to applause, that the company will be renovating the community pool as a service project.
